Yale Simplifies the Smart Home Experience for Matter-Enabled Smart Locks

New Yale Access app update gives users one intuitive place to set up, connect and manage their Yale Smart Lock with Matter across leading smart home platforms

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., August 4, 2026 – Yale, a leader in smart home security and part of Fortune Brands Innovations, Inc., today announced a new update to the Yale Access app that makes managing their Yale Smart Lock with Matter easier than ever. Matter is the industry standard designed to help compatible smart home devices work across different brands and platforms, but managing those connections across ecosystems can still be complex. The latest Yale Access update guides users through pairing the lock, helps them choose whether to manage the lock through Yale Access or connect it to leading smart home platforms, including Google Home™, Apple Home®(1), Amazon Alexa® and Samsung SmartThings™, and provides one place to manage Matter connections over time, all within the Yale Access app.

Whether users prefer to control their lock through Yale Access or connect it to a Matter-compatible ecosystem, the updated experience provides greater flexibility and visibility from initial setup through everyday use.

• Guided Matter setup: After pairing the lock over Bluetooth, the Yale Access app walks users through setup and helps them choose how to run their lock, either through Yale Access, or by connecting to a Matter-compatible smart home platform. 

• Yale Access remains central: Whether or not the lock is connected to Matter, users continue to access their lock settings and activity in the Yale Access app. The difference is where access control features are managed: without Matter, entry codes and guest access are controlled in the Yale Access app; when connected to one or more Matter platforms, those features are managed through Matter controller apps, including Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa or Samsung SmartThings.

• View and manage every connection: Yale Access provides visibility into where a lock is connected across Matter ecosystems and lets users add, adjust or remove connections as their smart home needs evolve.

The updated Yale Access Matter setup and management experience is now available for Yale Smart Lock with Matter users. Existing users can update the Yale Access app to access the new features. New users can download the Yale Access app, set up their lock and then connect it to their preferred Matter smart home platform. Existing users who want to add Yale Access features alongside their Matter setup (2) can refer to Yale support resources for setup guidance.
