The Nest x Yale Lock is the key-free smart lock for your home and a popular choice for those who enjoy the Nest ecosystem. When paired with the Nest Connect, you can add your lock to the Nest App and integrate with other ecosystem devices, such as the Nest Secure or Nest Speaker, to help you create a home that’s safer and smarter.

The Nest app allows you to lock and unlock your doors from anywhere, schedule guest access, and see a history of who unlocked the door and when.

Have your Nest x Yale Lock installed and ready to go? The next step is to connect the lock to the Nest app. To pair with your Nest account, you’ll need a Nest Connect or Nest Guard, the central hub of the Nest Secure alarm system. These devices connect the lock to your Wi-Fi network. If you purchased the Nest x Yale Lock bundle, the Nest Connect is included in the box. You won’t need anything else to make your lock work.

Now, let’s go step-by-step through the process.

Here's How to Connect your Nest x Yale Lock to the Nest App

1. Sign into your Nest account or create one

  • If you’re new to Nest: Go to the Apple App Store or Google Play to download the Nest app and create a free account.
  • If you already own a Nest product: Sign into your account on the app, if you haven’t already.

Note: If you have more than one home in your Nest account, make sure that you first select the Nest home where you want to install your Nest x Yale Lock. Tap “Menu” in the top left of the home screen to change homes.

2. Scan the QR code

  • If you’re new to Nest: Tap “Add New” on the app home screen.
  • If you already own a Nest product: Tap “Settings” in the top right corner of the app home screen. Then select “Add Product”.

The app will ask you to scan the QR code on your product so it knows what you’re installing. The Nest x Yale Lock code is in the battery compartment. Once the app knows what you’re installing it will guide you through the steps.

Tip: If you’re having trouble scanning the QR code, make sure you have good lighting and that you’re not casting a shadow on the code. Start with your phone about one foot away from the code and slowly move it closer. It doesn’t need to fill the box in the app to scan. If you still can’t scan the code, tap “Continue Without Scanning” and type in the numbers at the top of the QR code.

3. Add the lock to your Nest account.

Tell the app where the lock is installed. The app will use this location when it sends you notifications, so pick one that makes sense. The app will start looking for another Nest product that your lock can connect to (either a Guard or Connect). When it has found one, connect them by pressing and holding the white indicator light button on your lock, above the thumb turn on the interior side of the lock.

Troubleshooting Tip: If your lock can’t connect, try moving your Guard or Connect closer to your lock. A few inches or a couple of feet can make a big difference.

4. Create Nest passcodes

Next, you’ll create a Nest passcode with the app. This passcode will replace the master passcode you created on the lock. The app will then ask if you want to create passcodes for other people who share access to your Nest home. You can also invite new people to share access, and you can set schedules that limit when a person can enter your home.

And that’s it! Now you’re ready to enjoy the convenience and safety your new Nest x Yale Lock provides.
