How we set up our smart homes reflects our interests and lifestyles, which can take many forms. From music, gaming, and video streaming to working from home to smart security gadgets, we can quickly populate our homes with a range of devices connected to and competing for our Wi-Fi.

To better support your connected home, Assure Lock 2, Assure Lock 2 Touch, and Assure Lock 2 Plus with Wi-Fi modules can now connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands. Previously only available on 2.4 GHz, this upgrade offers a range of benefits to Assure Lock 2 users.

Simpler Setup

Whether you’re installing your lock for the first time or reinstalling it in a new home, you no longer have to worry about which Wi-Fi band to connect to. With both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz options available, you can choose which Wi-Fi band to use without the confusion of ensuring your lock is set to the correct one.

Improved Performance

Since 2.4 GHz is the default network for most connected devices, 5 GHz networks typically experience less traffic. This means less bandwidth competition, which results in faster performance.

Greater Flexibility

Select the Wi-Fi band that works best for your home. 2.4 GHz reaches a longer range (at a slower speed) within your home, while 5 GHz is better for speed (within a shorter range). Your choice can depend on how far your smart lock is located from the Wi-Fi router and/or how many devices are connected to each network.

Switching is Simple

Open the Wi-Fi settings in the Yale Access app, look for the 5 GHz option (for example, “HomeWiFi-5G”), select it, and enter your password. Your lock will then connect to the faster 5 GHz band. If your router manages both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under a single network name, there’s nothing you need to do. Your lock will connect to the best available option automatically.

5 GHz is now available for Assure Lock 2, Assure Lock 2 Touch, and Assure Lock 2 Plus with Wi-Fi models* operating on firmware version 1.0.32. For the best experience, ensure the Yale Access app is updated to the latest version 24.25.0.

*Not all Yale smart locks connect to Wi-Fi in the same way. If you have a Yale Assure Lock 2 with a built-in Wi-Fi Module, it supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. However, if your lock connects through a Yale Connect Bridge, or if your lock does not have Wi-Fi capabilities, it will not support this feature.
